The NTA was established in 2009 by the GCTVET Act. It is the national entity responsible for overseeing, designing, monitoring, promoting, and establishing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to meet Grenada’s skills development needs.
One of the main goals of the NTA is to develop, implement and maintain a national Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Plan that will create a workforce that is competent, certified, innovative, enterprising, and entrepreneurial for the local, regional, and international labour markets.
Another aim is to establish and maintain a national TVET system to harmonize, standardize, monitor, and evaluate all formal and non-formal national training, efforts in TVET within the state. Other areas of focus are to continuously assess and provide relevant information on TVET and workforce development, which includes the demand for and supply of human resources in collaboration with state and other agencies and to assist, support and encourage the development of training prrogrammes designed to promote innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship in Grenada’s human resources.

The vision of the National Training Agency is "a highly productive work-force improving Grenada's competitiveness".
